Q: What is the Baker Act?

The Baker Act is Florida’s Mental Health Act. If you are admitted to Wekiva Springs Center involuntary under the Baker Act, it means that there is a concern that without help, you may be a danger to yourself or someone else, or, if current behavior continues, you are likely to suffer from neglect or harm.

Q: When can I visit my loved ones?

We understand the importance of being able to visit loved ones during an inpatient hospital stay and we encourage visitors. Upon admission, patients and families will receive specific information regarding visiting days and times. No food or drinks are allowed to be brought in by the families, cell phones must be locked up prior to coming back for visitation and to call ahead to confirm what unit they are on. No visitors under the age of 18 and no limitations to number of visitors. 400 unit and 600 unit: Tuesday, 7:30 p.m. – 8:15 p.m. and Saturday, 3:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. 500 unit: Tuesday, 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. 700 unit: Wednesday, 7:30 p.m. – 8:15 p.m. and Sunday, 3:30 p.m. – 4:45 p.m. 900 unit: Daily visitation, 4:00 p.m. – 5:15 p.m.

Q: I do not feel comfortable sharing a room. Are private rooms available?

For your safety, we do not allow patients to have private rooms. As you progress through treatment, it will be important for you to have the support of your peers and support them in return. We take great care in assigning roommates we feel will support each other and enhance the therapeutic process. Only under special circumstances will a private room be made available. Please discuss this with your admissions counselor.

Q: How long is the average stay?

The care we provide is based on individual needs. While we have basic schedules, each patient receives a customized treatment plan that could affect their length of stay. You will regularly meet your treatment team to discuss your needs and jointly determine the length of stay that is optimal for your recovery.

Q: How do I refer a patient and how can I receive updates on their progress?

Professional referrals can be made 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 904-296-3533 or toll-free at 877-339-6636 . Patients may also schedule appointments. Walk-ins are always welcome. We encourage referring professionals to be an integral part of their patient’s treatment team. At a minimum, we will provide you with clinical updates throughout treatment. We will gladly communicate in a way that is convenient for you.
